Frequently Asked Questions
What is counselling
Counselling is a process of talking about and working through your personal problems with a counsellor. I will help you to address your problems in a positive way by helping you to clarify the issues, explore options, develop strategies and increase self-awareness.
How can counselling help me?
Counselling can help with many difficult life problems - from coping with traumatic experiences and events, to dealing with depression and anxiety or managing harmful emotions and behaviours.
What can i expect at the first visit?
At the first visit we will just chat about how i can help you with whatever life difficulties you are experiencing. You will learn what to expect from the counselling process. We will learn a little about each other which will help you to decide if you feel comfortable with us working together going forward. You will be assured of a warm welcome
How long are the sessions?
Each session lasts an hour. This could just be a few sessions or it could develop into a series of sessions to suit you. You may have a number of issues that require deeper and more intense therapy over time
How much will I have to pay and how?
Each session is 60 mins at a cost of £55. If you make a block booking of 6 sessions or more a discount will be offered. Concessions may be offered by negotiation
In light of many recent cancelled appointments I am changing my payment arrangements. Payment will need to be made at least 24 hours in advance of the session and can be made by card or bank transfer.
Will what I tell you remain confidential?
What is shared in the session is kept in the session. There are certain circumstances, when confidentiality may need to be broken but we will discuss this during our initial meeting. I am bound by the Ethical Framework of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), of which I am a member.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no limit to the number of sessions you can have. Some people need longer in therapy than others dependant on what you would like to achieve. If you decide that you would like us to work together, we will review the sessions every 6-8 weeks to ensure you are getting what you need from our work together.
